Human Resources Intern

Location: Brantford 
Under the direction of the Director of People, Strategy, and Engagement, we are seeking an enthusiastic and competent HR Intern to join our Human Resources Department. As an HR Intern, you will have to provide assistance to our HR department in day-to-day operations. You will assist the HR Department in various tasks including but not limited to, recruitment, selection, orientation, employee engagement and employee training and development.You will also assist in updating our employee records with new hire information, screen resumes, and schedule/conduct interviews. You will assist in organizing and planning our HR approaches, policies, and procedures, employee engagement, and rewards & recognition in a manner that is consistent with OFNTSC culture and values based on the Human Resources Policy and Procedure Manual.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administers policies and procedures relating to all aspects of HR activity and recommends policy updates in consultation with the Supervisor;
  • Ensures that HR policies are administered consistent with OFNTSC values and remain aligned with current labour laws and the OFNTSC strategic plan
  • Monitors and identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting HR functions and ensures OFNTSC policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance;
  • Provides support and advice to management on employee relations and performance management issues
  • Responsible for the effective delivery of OFNTSC Wellness and Workplace Safety and Health programs; active participation in the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC)
  • Oversees maintenance and integrity of personnel information through HRMS (BambooHR) and other systems (HRDownloads);
  • Investigates employee concerns/harassment issues and employee relations issues;
  • Conducts workplace investigations in accordance with employment standards and regulations.
  • Assists in HR-related functions including recruitment; on-boarding/off-boarding; training employees
  • Assists in the maintenance and accurate processing of employee timesheets and payroll system
  • Assists in the processing of employee departures, LOAs, return to work and workplace accommodations
  • Assists in exit interviews for employee departures and maintains control over the off-boarding checklist
  • Assists in the OFNTSC employee reward and recognition and employee engagement initiatives
  • Assists in the maintenance of the HRMS (BambooHR) including performance review/evaluation process,
  • Collaborates with external suppliers to provide HR services such as training, employee assistance, relocation
  • Assists in the production of statistical reports, analyses, and statements summaries
  • Ensures the secure handling and storage of confidential documents;
  • Travel may be required;
  •  Other duties as needed and assigned by the Supervisor

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors degree and/or College Diploma in Human Resources Management or similar field (final year students will be considered for this role)
  • Proven experience working as an HR intern or a similar role in the Human Resource Department is an asset
  • Working knowledge of Google Suites, database systems, HRIS and/or HRMS
  • Familiar with full-cycle recruiting
  • Basic understanding of labour legislation (Occupational safety and health, Employment Standards Act, etc)
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage and handle multiple tasks
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong work ethics
  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience with an Indigenous organization and culture is an asset
  • Proficiency with Internet, E-mail and other business-related computer software is required
  • Indigenous candidate preferred
