Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation appoints Shannin Metatawabin as Executive Director

Toronto, ON: The Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Shannin Metatawabin as the Executive Director of the OFNTSC. In this role Metatawabin will provide leadership and strategic direction to the Corporation during his tenure, and the Corporation’s mandate review. Metatawabin will assume the role of Executive Director beginning February 8, 2016 at the Toronto Service Centre location. 

“My career path has lead me to OFNTSC as they re-confirm service delivery to the First Nation communities of Ontario.  I am both honoured and humbled at the task to lead and optimize the OFNTSC. Metatawabin comes to the OFNTSC with over 20 years experience in the business and resource management sectors. Most recently Metatawabin served as the Manager of Aboriginal Affairs and Sustainability at DeBeers Canada.  At DeBeers he led impact benefit agreement implementation, community development and sustainability for the Victor Mine, community of interest engagement planning and compliance/grievance management. This background will facilitate a smooth transition to his new role as the Executive Director of the OFNTSC.

The task ahead of creating technical capacity while maintaining First Nation infrastructure for future generations is a priority for Ontario First Nations. The Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation was created in 1995 to provide technical advisory services to the 133 First Nations and 16 Tribal Councils in Ontario. Areas of service include engineering, operations and maintenance, housing, water and wastewater, infrastructure, environment, fuel systems, emergency planning and fire and safety.
