Landfill Operations and Maintenance and Solid Waste Diversion Workshop

The OFNTSC is announcing two workshops at Days Inn-Orillia, for Landfills Operations and Maintenance Training (two day workshop) plus a Solid Waste Diversion Workshop (one day) taking place from December 13-15, 2016.  Both workshops will start at 8:30am and will finish at 4:30pm. 

Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES)

The Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES) is inviting your community to participate in the “Recycle Your Electronics” program. The OES provides communities options to dispose of unwanted electronics and electrical equipment. There has never been an easier, more safe or secure way to get rid of your unwanted electronic equipment, at no cost and little effort.

Aboriginal Conservation Program

The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) has announced a new program for First Nations called the Aboriginal Conservation Program.  Eight (8) First Nations will be selected to participate in the Aboriginal Conservation Program for the fiscal year of 2013 – 2014.  The deadline to apply to the Aboriginal Conservation Program is May 6, 2013  

Federal Fuel Tank & Wastewater Regulations

The following is a reminder and recommendation to consider checking in with your First Nation, in relation to both the federal Fuel Storage Tank Regulations and the Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulations.

Background:

The federal Storage Tank Systems for Petroleum Products and Allied Petroleum Products Regulations, a regulation made under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), came into force in 2008 and applies to all underground storage tanks and all aboveground storage tanks greater than or equal to 2,500L.

Call for Letters of Interest (LOI) Climate Change Adaptation Program (CCAP) 2013-2014

Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada's Climate Change Adaptation Program is launching its call for Letters of Interest for funding for fiscal year 2013-2014. This call will close on September 26, 2012, 11:59 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (before noon). You will find attached the information for submitting a Letter of Interest. Following the end of the submission process, a Technical Review Committee will review the Letters of Interest received to determine which are eligible to move to the full proposal submission stage.

First Nations Landfill Operations and Maintenance Course, Location has changed

 

Update (01/09/2012): The OFNTSC Landfill Operations & Maintenance Course originally scheduled for Jan. 24-25, 2012 in Sudbury has been moved to Rama First Nation (dates remain the same).

The meeting will be held at the "MASK" Mnjikaning Arena Sports Key located at 6147 Rama Road in the upstairs Community Room.

The OFNTSC is pleased to announce we will be facilitating a two day course on First Nations Landfill Operations and Maintenance in Sioux Lookout from Nov 29 to 30, 2011 at  the Forest Inn & Conference Centre.

LEAF 2011-2012 Applications now Available!

First Nations and Inuit communities and institutions are now able to access funding through the 2011-2012 Lands Environmental Action Fund (LEAF). This funding is available for First Nations and Inuit to undertake a variety of initiatives related to environmental stewardship. LEAF funding is being provided to First Nations and Inuit governments, organizations, communities and appointed representatives to address environmental concerns on reserve lands and support environmental awareness and training.
