Step by Step to Becoming a Licensed R-2000 Airtightness Tester


  1. Contact your Tribal Council or OFNTSC to inquire about the Initiative
  2. Interested parties must demonstrate experience by documenting in writing training and/or work experience to demonstrate a professional working level of knowledge in:
    • Building science, especially the concept of the “House as a System”
    • Conventional and energy-efficient building practices
    • Residential heating, cooling and ventilation systems
    • Indoor air quality concepts
  3. Have access to blower door equipment that meets the requirements of NRCan
  4. Attend an R-2000 Builders Workshop, complete the exam and pass with a 75% or greater
  5. Complete a minimum of two blower door tests on R-2000 houses under the apprenticeship of a licensed R-2000 Airtightness Tester
  6. Sign an R-2000 License Agreement with NRCan
