Landfill Operations and Maintenance Training plus Solid Waste Diversion Workshop

The OFNTSC's Environment Service will be offering the Landfill Operations and Maintenance Training plus Solid Waste Diversion Information session from April 25 to April 27, 2017 at the Victoria Inn, Thunder Bay, ON.  The Landfill Operations and Maintenance Training will be two days (25-26), while the Solid Waste Diversion Information Session will be one day (27th). 

The Landfill Operations and Maintenance Training is designed to incorporate all aspects of managing your community's waste effectively, prolonging the lifespan of your site, while minimizing potential environmental impacts.  Topics for this training include: introduction to landfills and contamination, best practices for operations and maintenance, setting goals for management, and diversion opportunities.  

This training is open to OFNTSC Clients only.  Clients represent Tribal Council and First Nation Community Representatives.

Below is a course outline for all three days.

Day 1: Landfill Operations and Maintenance Training

  • Module 1: Landfills and Contamination
  • Module 2: (Part A) - Operation and Maintenance - Design and Construction

Day 2:  Landfill Operations and Maintenance Training

  • Module 3: (Part B) - Best Practices for Managing Your Landfill
  • Module 4: Setting Goals and Diversion Opportunities 
  • Module 5: Landfill Site Visit (TBA) - Participants are encouraged to bring safety gear, such as steel toed boots for this activity.  

Day 3:  Representatives from INAC, MOECC, the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA), Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES), Ontario Tire Stewardship (OTS), and others (TBA) will provide program updates, to increase both awareness and participation by Northern First Nations in waste diversion programs in Ontario. 

Registration

A block of rooms at the Victoria Inn, Thunder Bay have been reserved under the OFNTSC. Please quote ID#522701 when booking a room.  Participants are to arrange their own accommodations directly with the hotel. OFNTSC will cover expenses for rooms (excluding incidentals), travel and meals. Lunches and snacks will be provided throughout the course. Breakfasts and dinners will be the responsibility of the attendee.  Please note the block of rooms will be held for the OFNTSC until April 3, 2017. Registration will be limited to 30 participants and will be close when full.
